" Petit has a huge ego and while what he does might be thrilling to contemplate, it is ultimately foolish, selfish and irresponsible"

What do you think about this quote? Do you agree? Do you think the police did the right thing after each of the walks you viewed?

Hahaha wow im actually first to write in this!!
well i dont agree, but do aswell, if that makes any sense...

his idea is pretty irresposible and foolish, but everyone kind of has a right folow their dreams, and its cool that he did so.
he is kind of selfish, but sometimes you have to be in order to get what you want, and he was very passionate about wanting to do the walk.

i think the police did the right thing, i mean it would be stupid to send someone to prison and/or heavily charge them, when they do that to actual criminals. Petit is just an entertainer. even though what he does/did is illegal, nobody was harmed, so they did the right thing by arresting him, but not actualy sending him to jail or anything bad.
wow that was long!

Hey I agree with what Chelsea said. He was a very selfish person but that selfishness (is that a word) drove him to the top, literally. Maybe if we were all a bit more selfish we would achieve our dreams.
I think that he was selfish because if he had died what about his poor friends left behinde? they would be left scarred and feeling like they should have stopped him or was it something they did that made him fall.

So my answer is yes Mr Petit is selfish. But where would the world be without people like him?

Hmmm ...

I agree with the fact that he can be selfish because he does whatever it takes to do what he wants to do but i dont think its foolish because it takes alot of skill and planning to do what he does.

I think the police did the right thing aswell because its breaking the law, and they cant make exceptions for one person.

The quote really explains the reality of who Petit is. He did have a big ego and sometimes that isn't so bad. Look at what he achieved. I think that when Petit sees something he wants to do, he does not let anyone or anything get in his way. Once he visualises his goal, there's nothing that can stop him. In that way he is very selfish, but if you look at it from a different perspective, he is very ambitious.
I do think the police did the right thing in arresting him. I agree that they shouldn't make exceptions for just one person. Even though what he did was entertaining, that doesn't change the fact that he broke the law.

Hae every1!!
i agree with wat everyone said. Philippe is definitely selfish, but that is part of who he is, and who he had to be to achieve his dream. If he did not have a big ego, he would not have been able to do the big walk. He had to be confident so that he could believe in himself. Also, if he hadn't been as confident and selfish, others around him probably wouldn't believe that he could do it, and may have not supported him.
So I think that it is a good thing that he is selfish, in regards to the twin tower walk. :)

He was selfish in a way because he wanted to do the walk no matter what just so he can experience it (even if it had been illegal). Petit eas also partly irresponsible but i do not think he was foolish.

Um I think that Philippe was a brave man going after his dream, even though it meant risking his life. He was selfish towards his 'friends' because he never asked them what their dreams were he just expected them to follow his. I think the police were right in arresting him after each walk because he was breaking the law, even though it was in a non-dangerous way. (Is non-dangerous a word? I can't think of another one . . )

hello,
I think Philippe was very selfish. He would do whatever it took to do the 'walk'. Even if that included possibly hurting his friends. He relied on them so much. I don't think he was foolish, but irresponsible yes. I think the police were good to arrest him, but Im not sure I agree with them for deporting..um..the french guy who helped him.
see you at school

i think that phillipe was proud on what he did. He was a selfish man, but everyone is selfish, so who are we to judge, only as others being more selfish than we are.
The police are just doing there jobs. Phillipe was breaking the law, not in a harmful or cruel way but in a beautiful way. But he did his time, and we dont want lots of people doing things like wirewalking, because it would be crazy.
He followed his dream, therefore he is a brave and courageous man.

???is that how you spell it???

Hey everyone. I'm not sure what to write in the essay either. I think it has to do with characterisation or something?

Oh yeah and i mainly agree with what every one else has been saying...he is very selfish but i guess that was his dream...and his dream just required more input from others than most peoples dreams do if that makes sense....?? it makes sense to me...and also why did his helpers follow him liek little slaves?i mean they jus did whatever he wanted them to do without even thinking twice about the consequences that it might have on themselves...which is pretty stupid...but hey if they were happy with being treated like slaves i guess thats their perogative...

yea, you could say that shan, but if they really had a problem with the way they were being treated, they could easily have left, simple as that.

also, think its fair that phillipe and the french dude got arrested, but totally unfair that petite got pretty much let off, and the other guy got deported. if anything, it should be the other way around!! he didnt actually do the walking . . .

I have been doing some thinking and I have decided that yes Phillipe was selfish and he should have thought about his friends aswell but I don't think that he was a foolish person. I think that he just got caught up in the whirl of fame and fogot about the people that helped him to reach that point.

I agree that the police should have arrested him but they couldn't have prosecuted him because there would have bee public out cry. So the police were i a bit of a situation. But I think Phillipe was selfish because he didn't do much to help his friend Jean-F.
